Heritage
Oak Bay consisits
of three bodies that deal specifically with Oak Bay heritage
matters for the municipality. These three groups are: The
Oak Bay Heritage Committee, The Oak Bay Heritage Foundation and The Oak Bay Heritage Advisory Panel.

The Heritage Committee
• Promotes the architectural and cultural history of Oak Bay
• Undertakes research on heritage matters
• Maintains the inventories of heritage properties
• Makes recommendations to elected Oak Bay Council members
regarding the heritage register and funding allocations
• Supports the work of volunteers working on archives

The Heritage Foundation (A not-for-profit organization under the Societies Act)
• Provides grants to owners of designated heritage properties
to assist with preservation, maintenance or restoration
• Promotes education and awareness of heritage

The Heritage Advisory Panel
• Advises Oak Bay Council on:
- Heritage conservation aspects of land redevelopment
- Proposals for heritage designation
- Applications for alterations to designated or protected heritage structures
- Heritage assessment of property subject to temporary protection
- Regulatory initiatives
