Barbara Crombie Barry feeding Ernest Todd's pony "Billy" from the grounds of Victoria Golf Club. The Todd's Newport Avenue home, "Danehurst", is visible in the background.
Visitors bringing gifts of carrots, often left the pen gate ajar. Billy, a consummate escape artist, was seen on more than one occasion leading Mr. Todd on a merry chase along Newport Avenue. Mr. Todd often brought Billy with his carriage for children's rides are area schools' events.
Local children thought of Billy as their horse and were dismayed in 1954 when Billy's pen was replaced by a modern home for the family of Jack and Margaret Todd.
